Board Policy on
Energy Management

Recognizing that energy efficiency and conservation is in the best interest of the ___________ School District, its personnel, and students, as well as the tax-paying public, the Board will annually adopt an Energy Management Plan (EMP) to control and optimize the cost and consumption of energy, as well as other utilities, and the procurement of energy related products and services.  The EMP will be developed in coordination with established business planning activities, such as, the strategic plan, the capital improvement plan, and the budgeting cycle.  All school principals will address relevant items contained in the EMP in their School Improvement Plans.  

The EMP will be developed by the District Energy Management Committee comprised of 7 voting members, 6 of which shall be appointed by the Superintendent and 1 appointed by the Board from its number. The chairman shall be named by the Superintendent from his appointees. Non-voting support members may also be named as determined by the Superintendent. One committee member shall be appointed to represent each of the following positions:

1. A School Principal
2. Director, Maintenance and Operations
3. Director, Custodial Services
4. Director, Facilities Design and Construction
5. Director, Finance Department
6. School Board Member
7. The Energy Management Representative

Implementation of the EMP shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent or his designee.
